SIEL 2026: Panelists during the “Storytelling” session

The conference brought together two activists and a journalist to explore how they use storytelling to advocate for gender equality. They shared their experiences in organizing storytelling initiatives across universities and associations to drive social change and amplify voices in Morocco.

Adil Ait Ouaziz, a Moroccan journalist, explained how he uses storytelling in his reports to advocate for women’s rights. His work promotes equality by telling stories of their resilience, and supporting cooperatives and fair trade initiatives that help improve their economic independence.

The second guest, Sana Alouazen, a project coordinator in several NGOs and a researcher working on gender studies, shared her research on gynecological violence against women in both public and private hospitals, referring to the physical, verbal, and sexual violence that women may experience when seeking medical treatment or care, and how storytelling can be used to advocate for women’s rights and achieve social change.

Niama Ifleh, a human rights volunteer and researcher in cultural and gender studies at the University Ibn Tofail of Kenitra, spoke about gender and spirituality.

Guests showed how stories helped challenge inequality and social injustice, and how storytelling is more than just a narrative tool, it can be used to empower and amplify voices of vulnerable people.
