“Through the National Reading Award, we aspire to make reading our common cause" said Ms Mokhtari.

On Saturday, June 11th 2022 at  the International Publishing and Book Fair, more specifically  at the Ribat al-Fath hall, the Moroccan Reading Network revealed during a grand ceremony, the names of the winners of the eighth edition of the National Reading Award and the Best Reading Club Award, to which around 12,000 candidates from 560 primary, secondary and university schools took part this year. In the Primary school students’ category, the prize was awarded to Salma Edaabo from the "Abwab Marrakech" school (Portes de Marrakech),

to Yasser Al-Niwa from the Aslan Institute in Casablanca and to Mohamed Lmalki, from the Lalla Asmae Foundation for deaf children and youth in Rabat. In the high school category, the prize was awarded to Haitam Ben Taibi from the "Manarat Al-Firdaous" Foundation in Khemisset and to Ibtihal Al-Maaraf from the "Al-Akkad" high school in Tangier. Regarding secondary school level, the winners of the Prize are Hajar Kharbouch from Ahmed Zaki High School in Fez and Ilyas Semlali from Sijilmassa High School in Errachidia.

The university prize was awarded to Halima Hammouka from Hassan II University in Casablanca and to Sanaa Al-Sharia from Abdelmalek Saadi University in Tetouan. On this occasion, the president of the Reading Network in Morocco, Najia Mokhtari, recalled in her opening speech, that the goal of this award is to encourage reading. “Through the National Reading Award, we aspire to make reading our common cause" said Ms Mokhtari. The ceremony was also an opportunity to award the 2nd Prize for the best Reading Club to five clubs, namely the club "Educational Creativity" of the school "Al-Karam" in the city of El Hajeb, the Reading Club of the high school "Manarat Al-Firdaous" in Khemisset, the Club "We read for the progress of our nation" of the High School "Shaer Al-Hamra" in Casablanca, the Reading Club of the High School Youssef Ibn Tachfine in Fqih Ben Saleh, and finally, the Reading Club of the Faculty of Sciences Ain Chock of the University Hassan II in Casablanca. Regarding the Youth Prize for the Moroccan book, it went to the writer Hassan Aourid for his book "Allam bila Maalim". In the category of short stories, the prize was awarded to Anas Errafii for his collection "Al Hayawan Addairi". Finally, in the category of Moroccan novels in French, the winner is Loubna Serraj for her novel "Pourvu qu'il soit de bonne humeur".

Since the creation of the Reading Network in Morocco in 2013, the National Reading Prize is organized annually, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Regional Academies of Education and Training, the Regional Directorates of the Ministry of National Education and other educational institutions.

It was a heartfelt celebration of books, words, and reading.
