At the International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL) in Rabat on April 23rds, author and thinker Tarik Moudden unveiled his latest publication, "Harmonies durables: Propositions pour un développement territorial responsable". In a compelling presentation hosted in Salle Liqae, Moudden engaged the audience with a forward-looking vision of Morocco’s sustainable development, one that begins and ends with the human being.

The book explores the philosophical foundations of territorial development, emphasizing that Morocco's greatest asset is its people, especially its youth. “Human dignity and social cohesion are not outcomes but starting points,” Moudden stated. The author argues that development must be tailored to the unique traits of each region, acknowledging that no single model fits all.

Two chapters of the book focus specifically on the role of businesses and the involvement of stakeholders, including institutions and civil society. Moudden stresses that youth engagement is essential for any real, lasting change. One highlight from the event was the mention of MASEN’s solar energy initiative in Ouarzazate, a model of sustainable development launched in a community lacking basic infrastructure such as roads or hospitals. It illustrates how innovation and local leadership can flourish even in adverse conditions.

The book shines a light on the valuable lessons emerging from recent global challenges. Reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic, Moudden frames it as a pivotal moment to rethink how societies approach crisis management. Rather than dwell on shortcomings, he calls for a forward-looking mindset, one rooted in proactive planning, stronger collaboration, and inclusive strategies to build resilient communities capable of withstanding future uncertainties.

Presented by Ouadih Dada, the session blended academic insights with accessible dialogue, leaving attendees with a strong message: sustainable territorial development must be inclusive, participatory, and, above all, human.
