Scientific Symposium Highlights Morocco’s Enduring Presence in Palestine at Rabat Book Fair
As part of the 30th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair in Rabat, a scientific symposium was held on April 24, 2025, under the theme: “Moroccan Presence in Jerusalem and Palestine: Promoting Awareness of Moroccan Cultural Identity in the Levant and the Middle East.” The event was organized by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency and brought together scholars and researchers from both Morocco and Palestine.
Moderated by Mohamed Dhrif, a researcher affiliated with the Bayt Al-Quds Center for Research and Studies, the symposium served as a platform to shed light on Morocco’s historical and cultural contributions to Palestine, particularly in Jerusalem.
Palestinian researcher Safaa Nasser Eddine emphasized the deep-rooted relationship between Morocco and Palestine. “We share a long-standing bond. It is our duty to express sincere gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee. The launch of the Moroccan Studies Chair aims to confront erasure and suppression by highlighting Morocco’s efforts in Palestine,” she stated.
Dr. Mashhoor Hiyazi reflected on the emotional and historical ties between the two peoples. “When we meet Moroccans in the market and they learn we’re Palestinian, they often say, ‘Palestine lives in our hearts.’ This heartfelt solidarity speaks volumes,” he said. He also noted that the relationship dates back to historical journeys for pilgrimage and education between the two regions.
Walid Al-Shurafa contributed to the discussion by stressing the lasting wound of the Nakba and the significant role of the Moroccan nationalist movement in supporting the Palestinian cause. “The Palestinian tragedy began with the Nakba, and it’s important to remember how Moroccan nationalists stood with us during that time,” he said.
This symposium served as a powerful reminder of the enduring cultural and historical connections between Morocco and Palestine. Through academic reflection and shared memory, it reinforced the importance of preserving these ties and continuing efforts to promote Moroccan heritage in the Holy City. The event at the Rabat Book Fair stood as a testament to solidarity, scholarship, and the unbreakable bond between two peoples.
