The International Publishing Book Fair hosted today June 10, 2023, an engaging panel at the Ribat al Fath Hall about Morocco and the Anglo-Saxon world, the spotlight was firmly cast on the English language.

Featured by distinguished English writers and professors Rachida Guelzim, Karim Bejjit, Keohane Alan Patrick John, and Mohamed Laamiri, and moderated by Hafsa Bekri Lamrani. The panel delved into the chronology of Morocco's relations with the Anglo-Saxon world, specifically the United States and England, throughout history.

 

The panelists painted a vivid picture of the rich and long history of connections between Morocco and the English-speaking world, reaching back to the pre-state era to the present day. These relationships have encompassed diplomatic engagements, cultural exchanges, and collaborations.

 

Despite the geographical distance, Morocco has cultivated lasting ties with the Anglo-Saxon world, forging bonds based on a deep appreciation for cultural diversity. Today, these relations continue to evolve, fostering dialogue, cooperation, and opportunities for growth in various fields including education.

 

English language, the future of the next generations

 

Rachida Guelzim, a prominent figure in English language teaching, left a lasting impression with her insightful quote: "You don't necessarily go to English, but it comes to you." She highlighted the global nature of the English language and its omnipresence in every domain.

Furthermore, Ms. Guelzim underlined the significance of incorporating the English language into the Moroccan educational system from an early age. She stressed the need for Moroccan textbooks that cater to the specific needs of students, equipping them with the necessary linguistic tools to acquire the language in question.

 

Keohane Alan Patrick John stressed that “it is extremely important for students to learn English as it allows them to find more opportunities in the job market both nationally and internationally.”

 

The panelists agreed on the need to empower Moroccan students with the language skills that will propel them toward a brighter future.
