In this article, we bring you closer to Morocco’s nearest European neighbor: Spain. Within the pavilion of the Cervantes Institute, the official cultural institution for Spanish language and culture, the novel "Los Viajeros del Continente" conveys a timeless lesson: to make life meaningful, one must travel toward a purposeful mortality.

Our mission is to accompany you across borders, offering books that make every reading experience valuable. Today’s destination lies across the maritime border of Northern Morocco. Spain and Morocco share deep historical and symbolic bonds, a relationship dating back to the 8th century and the era of Al-Andalus.

The Travelers of the Continent (Los Viajeros del Continente) is no ordinary travel book. Its characters attempt to revive an old Europe of "premature ruins." Hugh de Galard and his wife, Violet Archer, desperately try to save what is left of a fading landscape: old spas, forgotten stations, abandoned water parks, and closed cemeteries. The story depicts an old Europe drifting into uncertainty, seemingly on the brink of disappearance.

The Old Continent’s Slow Decay

Hugh de Galard, a British travel writer, faces a terminal illness. Refusing to spend his final days bedridden in a hospital, he decides to embark on one last journey through Europe. His wife, Violet, supports his decision and joins him, despite her own fears and grief. Together, they visit a decaying continent that is losing its collective memory.

The Search for Meaning

This journey allows Hugh to achieve a dignified and meaningful death. The tale suggests that facing the end of life should be done on one’s own terms. Hugh seeks his final exit as a last act of love for the life he cherished. Together, the couple searches for the soul of a continent that seems to be vanishing under the weight of time and indifference.

Los Viajeros del Continente invites you on a profound journey through the heart of Europe. An insightful Spanish narrative that celebrates life and memory, even as it confronts the inevitable weight of silence.
